Nagisa Umeno was born in Hiroshima, Japan.
She began to play piano from a young age, and studied piano at a music university in Hiroshima. After graduating university, she went to Tokyo to become an actress. She appeared in many independent films, and then joined a theater company (オフィス3◯◯ “Office Sanju Maru” lead by Eri Watanabe). There, in addition to performing as an actress, she also participated in composing and playing piano pieces. At times, she would take on acting roles that required her to play piano while performing.
After leaving Office Sanju Maru, she appeared as the heroine in the movie “Come as you are” (2011 Dir. Kota Yoshida). It was screened at the 19th Raindance Film Festival in London. After that, she starred in “FORMA” (2014 Dir. Ayumi Sakamoto), which was screened internationally. “FORMA” received the BEST PICTURE AWARD at the 26th Tokyo International Film Festival 2013, the FIPRESCI Prize at the 64th Berlin International FIlm Festival 2014, and the SPECIAL MENTION Prize at the 26th Hong Kong International Film Festival 2014.
In recent years, she has become an accredited master “HANAYAGI SANAGINO” in the Hanayagi School of Japanese traditional dance. In addition to this, she also plays a role in music production and as a support musician. In February 2024, she appeared on the album “NoRoShi” by singer-songwriter SNARE COVER, performing piano and arranging the songs “Nagai Yume no Owari” and “Otona.” She has also been a live support member for SNARE COVER since early 2023.
She looks forward to participating in various future projects.
